Linux 7.2 ha retirado el viejo driver applicom para tarjetas PROFIBUS PCI. El código venía de un puerto desde SCO Unix en 1998 y, según el historial citado, llevaba años sin señales claras de uso. La decisión importa porque reduce una pieza de mantenimiento para el kernel. También corta un tramo de código que arrastraba problemas de estilo, parches de seguridad y correcciones puntuales desde hace tiempo. Un driver de 1998 que llevaba años sin vida útil aparente El driver applicom daba soporte a tarjetas PCI Profibus de Applicom, empresa que después pasó a manos de Molex.
